October 17-21

OH, here we go a HOMECOMING upon the fields so green...

Monday is Crayon Day.
Tuesday is Book Character Day.
Wednesday is Crazy Hair/Hat Day.
Thursday is Team Day.
Friday is Homecoming Shirt/Long Jeans/Uniform Bottoms Day, AND is EARLY DISMISSAL!!!!!

Monday, October 31st the pumpkins are due.  We finished our posters today for our animal.  Therefore, the kids should be all ready to decorate their pumpkin.  It has been a lot of fun watching the discovery of so many unknown animals.  There are pictures of the kids making their posters below.

Friday, November 4th is our field trip to Fort Toulouse.  This is not just limited to fathers.  Anyone is welcome to accompany the 4th grader if their father can't make it.  As of right now, the children will be eating lunch at school and then departing.  They will be dismissed from Fort Toulouse.

Amidst all of the frivolity (and I'm very excited about my outfits), we will still participate in academic pursuits!  Scholars always keep their eyes on the prize.

Our week in academia...

Spelling: Unit 10 Test Wednesday
Reading: Wanted... Mud Blossom skill: compare/contrast, story structure  I've talked with many of you about the importance of vocabulary in reading.  The following website has many fun games that can be used to practice vocabulary and even things like prefixes and suffixes.  You might want to bookmark it.

Language: Unit 2 Test Thursday
Math: Chapters 4 and 9... Chapter 4 and 9 both cover algebra.  Chapter 4 uses addition and subtraction.  Chapter 9 uses multiplication and division.  Therefore, will be covering them together.  Next week we will be matching words to expressions.  Earlier this week, the kids made their own flash cards that can be used for multiplication and division.  Hopefully, these have made an appearance at home.  If not, please inquire as to their whereabouts.  Our first speed test will be Wednesday.  The speed tests will be averaged together for 1 daily grade.  100 facts (1-9) in 5 minutes
Bible: Sodom and Gomorrah
Science: We will begin our FOSS kit on Magnetism and Electricity.  This is a great kit!  The kids have always loved using it.  Make-up work will be much more difficult, however.  If a child misses a day, they will miss the hands on activity used to teach the lesson.  We won't be taking any notes.
History: Chapter 4 "Historic Indians"

Enjoy your week!!!

Illness struck us with a vengeance this week, so I didn't get a picture of everyone.
